Making Prayer A Priority

One of the many challenges presented by COVID-19 within our Catholic school is continuing to provide opportunities for our students and families to experience our tradition as being meaningful without regular mass and whole school liturgical celebrations. Our daily whole school prayer and the preparation of our Sacraments are also very different this year. In response to this significant challenge, we are focusing on our prayer life by ensuring Prayer is a Priority.

Choosing Prayer as a focus throughout COVID-19 restrictions, is no accident. We know that if God is at the centre of our Catholic school, then prayer plays an essential role in the formation of our school’s Catholic Identity.

Our intention to reignite our school’s prayer life began this week with a staff gathering. After much reflection and discussion we collectively committed to be innovative and provide engaging opportunities for ourselves, parents and students to use prayer as a point of connection with our Catholic faith.

It is critical that we allow our students to come to their own realisation of the importance of prayer. To achieve this we aim to have our students play an active role in consolidating their understanding of prayer as an encounter with Jesus. Next week, all students will receive their own Prayer Journal. Teachers will continue to gather to explore ways to help students develop their understanding of prayer and ways to share our learning with parents and our Parish.

This brief video of Pope Francis sharing the importance of prayer for families is definitely worth watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWRmByVhp30

We leave you with a video clip of Mrs Baker simply showing how parents and families can pray our most important prayer together:
