THE FORTNIGHT THAT WAS IN GARDENING CLUB

Kindergarten

In Week 5 our Kinders investigated seasonality by looking at what they had for Crunch and Sip vs what actually grows here in Helensburgh in Winter. For example, Kinder discussed ‘if strawberries grow in summer, how come we can buy them now’ with many great reasons given. Week 6 turned into a very busy session, firstly it was all about Father’s Day with our budding gardeners making a seed growing pack to do with their Dad which created immense excitement. We also did a study on what food products we get from animals and plants, Kinders were able to try a range of foods including seaweed, goats milk and dried apples, although there was not much love for the goats milk!!!

Lunchtime Gardening Club

That mulch pile is starting to feel like the ‘never-ending bowl of pasta’ but needing to mulch did not deter our member’s, led by our GC Leaders on the wheelbarrows, they all enthusiastically put on their gloves, picked up tools and marched straight on over (in fact we had to slow them down to wait for Rod who was helping a student with their gloves!!!). Our ‘Snail Hunters’ vigilantly went on the prowl each week to declare our gardens ‘snail free’ and then got to work moving mulch into the gardens. With a new tub bought to hold our seeds, Charlotte and Claire volunteered to sort our huge array of collected seeds into containers, this turned into quite a mammoth task as the seeds were all mixed in together.

Stay tuned to see what we get up to next!

EXCITING NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY

The Premier’s Reading Challenge has now closed and we are very pleased to announce that for the VERY FIRST TIME, EVERY STUDENT at Holy Cross completed the challenge! However, such a momentous effort doesn’t just happen, our students had the full support of our wonderful staff to make this happen.

K-2 completed the Challenge at school, a huge thank you to their classroom teachers and Mrs Barbuto for reading the many beautiful PRC picture books throughout Term 2 and 3.

Year 3-6 were required to complete the Challenge themselves online – it became evident that all our students had read more than the required number of books and it was just a matter of filling out the online form – which was not the most user-friendly. Every student will receive a certificate at the end of the year.

CONGRATULATIONS HOLY CROSS!

Year 3 1:1 iPads in 2021

Last week parents were invited to join a Zoom information session on our managed iPads for year 3 2021. It was a fantastic representation of parents and provided an opportunity to outline the managed iPads at Holy Cross. Managed iPads will allow the school to configure and manage screen time and Apps used at school and home. David Emery, Operations Manager, ICLT from the CEO was able to assist on the night, along with Mrs Duffin and Mr Bõdy. We thank the parents that attended and contributed on the night to build this future direction in technology at Holy Cross.
