Spuds Galore and Animal Research!
Year 2
We have had a great start to our Living Things unit. Week 2 our students investigated ‘what living things need’, were split into groups to research an animal and present their findings to the class – and there were some very interesting facts presented! The rain did not stop our session in Week 3 – we looked at historic photos of Helensburgh to see how our area has changed and role played what happens to native fauna. Then it was out into the school grounds for a ‘School Safari’ to look for evidence of living things – our Year 2's were so totally engaged in their safari that I’m sure we could have spent the whole afternoon investigating!
Lunchtime Gardening Club
Week 2 was all about potatoes, potatoes and more potatoes! It is understatement to say that our members enjoyed finding and digging up potatoes – it was hard to get them to stop! We had planted out one and a half garden beds and had enough potatoes for every member to get a bag to take home. Although we had rain in Week 3 which meant we could not get out into The Patch, Gardening Club still went ahead in the Library. Wet weather gives us a unique opportunity to look at what we are doing, research gardening practices and share ideas – this session was dedicated to ‘how can we encourage beneficial insects into our garden space’. Our members decided to team up and came up with some fantastic ideas which we can’t wait to implement. Well done GC!
Stay tuned to see what we get up to next!
