PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

Dear Parents & Carers,

One of the greatest challenges we have been presented with this year has been maintaining engagement with our parents and families. Although we have done our best to share virtually our assemblies and special events, we are very aware that these have not been the same without loved ones onsite.

Perhaps one of the most treasured events on our annual calendar is Grandparents Day. Not being able to invite our grandparents and special people into our school to honour them has been most disappointing. It was very important to us however, to ensure we continued our tradition to celebrate and give thanks for the grandparents and special people in our lives. Coming to school dressed as our grandparents on Wednesday was certainly a novel way to celebrate and honour all of them. We are grateful to our colleagues at Helensburgh Public School for giving us this idea!

Grandparents are often strong witnesses to the faith and are often key in passing on the faith to their grandchildren. The relationship between a grandparent and grandchild is unique. A grandparent is always able to see past the cheeky behaviour, the tantrum or attitude to the inner beauty within. Grandchildren are always able to see the inner beauty of their grandparent and freely let them know how much they love them.

Although we were not able to celebrate in person this year, our students have passionately composed letters, poems, stories and thoughts and shared these with their grandparents and special people via Seesaw. We held a special Assembly on Wednesday and paid tribute to our grandparents. You will find the links to the assembly in school news.

A Prayer for Grandparents

Dear God,

Please bless our grandparents.

Thank you for the life they gave my parents and for the life they give to me.

For the ways they helped me and made me strong, I give thanks.

For the ways they love me no matter what, I rejoice.

For the ways they have paved the road that leads me here, I am grateful.

Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life.

Let them find peace and rest from their work.

Let them be healed of every sickness and pain.

And let them see with their own eyes the glory of your Son, Jesus, in the love of their children and grandchildren.

Bless them always until they come to rest in you.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
