PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear parents and carers,
With escalating COVID positive cases across NSW this week, coupled with the devastating humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, we are reminded of how crucial it is to remain people of hope. Pope Francis’ book On Hope sends a simple, life-changing message: God’s love can grace each of us with a lasting and sustaining hope, no matter how dark or confusing our situation. What we need to remember and instill in our children is also from Pope Francis: Hope is often expressed in the simple act of a smile.
Our staff wanted to send their thoughts and gratitude to you for all that you are doing because you are continuing to make a huge difference to the wellbeing and education of your children. Hopefully it puts a smile on your face.
Senior School Support Officer Role
I would like to announce that at the end of the 2021 school year, Mrs Dianne Bartholomeusz, will be relinquishing her position as Senior School Support Officer (SSSO). Dianne has worked in this significant role for over 10 years at Holy Cross and at other schools within the Diocese. Although Dianne will remain a part of our school staff, we thank her for her patience, compassion, efficiency and wisdom within the SSSO role. The permanent full time SSSO position will be advertised next week.

Matthew Ames was 39 years old in 2012 when what started as a sore throat developed into streptococcal resulting in toxic shock. At the time there was great concern for Matthew, as he was given a 1% chance of survival. Matthew was placed into an induced coma and it was Matthew’s wife Diane who needed to make the heart-wrenching decision to remove Matthew’s four limbs in order to save his life.
In our conversation, Matthew shares the story of his remarkable journey. Through the support of Di, their four children, their extended family, their many friends, and a team of talented medical experts Matthew has come such a long way.
In this first episode, Matthew shares the challenges, the breakthroughs, and the insights that he has gained over the years as he has adjusted to this new reality. Inevitably you will witness Matthew’s extraordinary strength and hear his message regarding the value of purpose and flexibility. In the second episode, to be released next week, Matthew will speak about some of the practices that have sustained him over the years. He speaks about the value of gratitude, mindfulness, prayer, and acceptance. Following times of deep reflection, Matthew has a perspective on life that is both refreshing and unique.
