RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION - 15 AUGUST

Yesterday our Year 5 & 6 students attended Mass

Since the 5th Century there has been an active tradition and belief around the Assumption of Mary. The tradition states that Mary was physically ‘taken up’ into heaven at the end of her life. It is believed that her soul and her body remained united. This ancient belief was defined as an infallible teaching of the Church by Pope Pius XII in 1950.

The feast of the Assumption commemorates the glorification of Mary, chosen by God, to be the mother of Jesus the Christ. The feast acquired a special status as a feast of Mary when Pius XII in 1950 defined the assumption as a dogma of faith. On this feast we are encouraged to affirm our humanity and work to enhance the dignity of people as daughters and sons of God.
The feast is celebrated on August 15 and is a Holy Day of Obligation.

YEAR 4 RELIGIOUS LITERACY ASSESSMENT - MONDAY 19 AUGUST

On Monday 19 August all students in Year 4 across the Diocese will sit the Religious Literacy Assessment. This assessment is a means of celebrating and sharing the good news about students’ learning in Religious Education. It focuses on students’ knowledge and understanding of the key concepts that are being addressed by the Religious Education program and the children’s ability to communicate with their Religious tradition. Key stakeholders, including parents, will receive data back regarding the assessment.
