Dear parents and friends of Holy Cross,
National Reconciliation Week is held each year from 27 May to 3 June. The 2022 theme is “Be Brave. Make Change.” and is a challenge to all Australians to tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation. Today, our school community gathered to launch National Reconciliation Week through a beautiful liturgy that also acknowledged National Apology Day which falls today.
As we enter into National Reconciliation Week, I acknowledge the ongoing efforts of Holy Cross in being true to our mission to be people of inclusivity and welcome, standing together as one in solidarity.
Throughout the week, our students and staff will continue their learning together to deepen their understanding and appreciation of our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Each class will share their week’s learning at a special gathering next Thursday 2 June at 2.30pm. We invite all parents and friends to join us.
A Prayer for Reconciliation
God of this ancient land, you call us to be people of Reconciliation.
Together, encourage us to “be brave”
to “tackle unfinished business”,
and to “make change” to bring Australians closer together.
Through our mentor in love and forgiveness,
your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
God Bless,
Kaylene
Farewell Mrs Sylvia Richardson
This week we formally farewelled Mrs Sylvia Richardson who is retiring from her position as School Support Officer, a position she has held for almost 20 years. Sylvia shared precious memories of her time at Holy Cross at the Liturgy we held in her honour. Student representatives and Mrs Bernie Baker also shared her memories and gave thanks for everything that Sylvia has contributed to during her time at Holy Cross as both a parent and staff member. Sylvia was ‘clapped’ out via a guard of honour at the conclusion of the liturgy. We wish Sylvia every happiness and send all of our blessings.

Thank you to everyone who came to support the students and those who volunteered to assist the running of the carnival. We are continuing to finalise the Shot Put and Discus events at school and will advise when our winning house will be announced as well as our Age Champions.
Diocesan Cross Country Carnival
Congratulations to our team of 18 students who represented our school on Tuesday at the CEDoW Cross Country trials. All of our students did their very best with outstanding results. We also acknowledge the 24 students who originally qualified to represent Holy Cross at the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival and who trained very hard in preparation. Due to the recent rain events, the original carnival was changed to a Diocesan ‘trial’ which meant that some of our students did not attend the trial on Tuesday. We are very proud of all our cross country team this year.
Congratulations to Jesse who placed 1st, Emma who placed 3rd and Eddie who placed 1st in the Multiclass who will represent the Wollongong Diocese at the MackIllop Trials in June.
