Dear Parents
As we come to the end of another busy term I want to wish all our students happy holidays! Thank you for a wonderful term of learning and fun. Thank you to our parents and families for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Enjoy this student vacation with your children, stay safe and we look forward to an enjoyable Term 3.
I would like to thank both the staff and the parents for their input into report time and parent/teacher interviews. It is important that teachers and parents can communicate together to ensure that we are doing the best for every student. I am very proud of our staff at Holy Cross and take great delight in telling my fellow principal colleagues, how supportive our parent body is of the school and the teachers.
First Holy Communion
Sunday 23 June many of our Year 3 students received Communion for the very first time. This was a beautiful celebration and I felt privileged to be part of the day. A big thank you to Miss Costello, Mrs Baker and Miss Facci for all of their hard work and organisation in preparation with the children and the parish for this sacrament.
Change of Plans?
There are times when plans change in regards to how students are getting home in the afternoon and of course please ring the school office. Last Friday there were over 25 messages for change of home arrangements. Our main aim at dismissal is to make sure everyone gets home safe and sound so please update your child’s teacher if there going home arrangements have changed since the beginning of the year.
Netball Gala Day
On Tuesday 2 July, several teams from Years 3 - 6 represented Holy Cross at the South Coast Netball Gala Day. The day was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn new skills, have fun with their friends and represent their school with pride. All participants should be congratulated for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship that they demonstrated on the day. A big thank you to Mr Whitehall for organising our teams and to the staff and parents on the day for ensuring everyone had a great time.
School Uniform
Throughout this term, I have been speaking to the students regularly about the way in which they wear their school uniform. I am very proud of our school and one way in which the students can demonstrate their pride in our school is the manner in which they wear their school uniform. Just a reminder that with the formal winter uniform, the students are either to wear the school jumper or the new formal Jacket. The sports tracksuit jacket is only to be worn on Wednesday and Friday. If you have any questions about the school uniform please come and have a chat to me or feel free to call the school office.

ICAS International Competitions and Assessments for Schools
Each year, we have a number of children who sit the ICAS International Competitions and Assessments for Schools Tests in Year 2-6. They have been very popular and many students have participated in the past. This year, there have been a number of changes to these tests. Previously, all testing was in the form of a paper test. This year all tests will be online, with the exception of the Writing test for Years 3 and 4. Students will use an iPad, provided by the school, or their own iPad to complete the test. The cost of the tests has also changed. All tests now cost $14.50 each.
One of the biggest changes is the timing of the tests. Previously they ran across the year. This year all six tests will occur across a three week period. If your child is absent on the sitting day, they will have the opportunity to sit the test on the next day. This is a recent change that has been made regarding the sitting dates.
When considering if you would like your child to complete these tests, you may like to take into consideration that these tests are aimed at challenging and extending students.
